It is often said that the power of an organisation lies in its "why" - a shared sense of belonging and purpose that drives every action and decision, both on an individual and collective level.
At Diaverum, this manifests in our True care culture, a force that motivates and inspires our people to go above & beyond for our patients, each other, and the societies in which we operate.
Last year, North Macedonia was celebrated as 2024’s outstanding example of True care, when they became the first-ever country team to be recognised at the Diaverum Awards. This milestone capped off a year of extraordinary achievements for the team, setting a new benchmark for the life-enhancing renal care we strive to provide as an organisation.
Here, Dimitar Klisarovski, Country Manager, shares his insights on the ‘special sauce’ that sets his country apart.
It has only been six years since Diaverum opened its doors in North Macedonia – yet the mark we’ve made is unmistakeable. Take the Renal Expert Academy, for example, an initiative we played a major role in bringing to life. Held in November 2023, it brought together over 50 experts from North Macedonia and Sweden, to exchange insights and best practices to enhance renal care within the country. The important conversations held here, and the leading role Diaverum played, have already delivered results; for example, the local Ministry of Health launched a national CKD screening project, reaching 2,000 people across the country, with half of those screened by Diaverum healthcare professionals.
The results were striking – 30% of those screened were found to be at some stage of CKD and required follow-up testing, with three individuals now receiving life-sustaining renal care at Diaverum. It was a profound reminder of the escalating prevalence of chronic kidney disease, both in North Macedonia and globally — and of the critical role we have to play in helping people navigate life with this complex, often silent condition.
At the end of last year, I had the honour of presenting this project, among others, when I represented Diaverum North Macedonia before the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm – the government of the country where Diaverum first began to take shape. It was a humbling moment to stand before those representatives and share the story of how our team’s individual and collective efforts have shaped renal care in our own country. It has never been clearer to me than in that moment, that Diaverum’s True care is not proprietary—it’s a guiding principle that we can harness to lead by example, and inspire meaningful change in healthcare, far beyond our clinics.
At the same time, it is important to pause and celebrate these moments, which is why I was determined to submit nominations in the 2024 Diaverum Awards. But in looking at my team - Nadica Misovska, Medical Director; Aneta Stamkova, Communications Specialist, and many others - I recalled not only these ‘big’ moments, but countless others, smaller, and often unseen acts, of Competence, Passion and Inspiration, that take place in our organisation, every day. It reminded me that we’re greater than the sum of our parts, a group of individuals committed to something bigger than ourselves. Which left me with one option – to submit North Macedonia as a country-wide nomination. At the time, it felt like a long shot – but one that I will forever be grateful that I took.
The momentum we’ve built in North Macedonia is just the beginning. As we continue to push boundaries in renal care, inspire collaboration, and expand access to life-saving treatments, True care remains our constant, and our guiding light. By going beyond what’s expected, we’re not just improving lives – we’re helping to shape the future of renal care, one step at a time. And with everything we’ve accomplished so far, one thing is clear – we’re just getting started.
